Can the paper of a book reveal its character? Beyond the printed pages, we often overlook the cover, the endpapers, the patterned sheets, which quietly shape a book’s personality.

Marbled paper, commonly used in book decoration, gains its marble-like textures through transferring floating inks on a water surface to paper, offering a delicate tactile quality. As “Beyond the Ordinary – Contemporary Book Art” opens this month, exhibiting artist and Hong Kong book art practitioner Percy So @percybookbinder will lead a hands‑on workshop in paper marbling and paste paper, guiding participants to create decorative sheets with distinctive colours and patterns, which are perfect for bookbinding or future art projects.

Spots are limited. Join us and craft your own one‑of‑a‑kind decorative paper.

Have you ever thought about how the paper used in a book reflects its character? Beyond the printed pages, we often overlook the decorative papers used for covers, endpapers, and inner pages, which add visual charm and elevate a book’s design.

One of the most captivating forms of decorative paper is marbled paper, originating from Turkey. As a type of paste paper, it features intricate marble-like patterns created through the skilled manipulation of paste, resulting in delicate textures and mesmerizing, cloud-like designs.

With our upcoming exhibition “Beyond the Ordinary – Contemporary Book Art” opening this month, we are delighted to host a paper marbling workshop led by Percy So, a Hong Kong-based paper and book artist, and one of the exhibiting artists in the show. Percy will introduce techniques for creating marbled and paste papers, guiding attendees in creating their own unique sheets with vibrant color combinations and intricate patterns. These one-of-a-kind creations can be used in bookbinding or as embellishments for other artistic projects.
